Why Exhibitors Choose SOL Germany for PCIM Expo

PCIM is a display problem before it is a design problem, and the display problem is unusual: your product is often tiny. A power module, a bare silicon-carbide or gallium-nitride die, a wound magnetic component, a passive part — these are objects a visitor has to lean in and study, and half of what convinces a design engineer is detail they can only read up close. A stand that treats a four-figure component like a poster loses the conversation. We build eye-level vitrines with directional task lighting, oversized cutaway and cross-section models, and secure mounts for parts that are small enough to pocket and expensive enough to matter. The layout question here is not where the big object goes; it is how you make a small object legible.

The second reality is power and heat. Where earlier editions on this floor were catalogues, PCIM stands increasingly run something live — a converter or inverter under load, a drive spinning a motor, a rig showing efficiency and switching behaviour on instruments. That draws real current, often three-phase, and it dumps real heat into an enclosed hall. Both have to be ordered and planned, not improvised at a socket. We settle the electrical supply and the heat-extraction route while the bench is being designed, because a demo that trips the supply or bakes its own enclosure by mid-afternoon is worse than no demo at all.

On the practical side, Nuremberg is home turf. The stand is built and assembled on our own floor in Frankfurt, photographed for your approval, then driven roughly 220 kilometres south. Domestic road freight, no customs file, no border, and a crew who have worked these halls across it-sa, SPS, Embedded World, Powtech and Chillventa.

The demo bench, the supply order and the vitrine lighting are all in the quote you sign — priced before the design is drawn, not discovered on site.

Make the Small Things Legible

This is the PCIM-specific one. Your headline product may be the size of a matchbox and worth more than the counter it sits on, and a design engineer decides whether it is worth a meeting by studying it closely — pin spacing, package, die attach, terminal layout. Poster-sized renders do not do that work. We plan for eye-level vitrines with directional task lighting, magnification where it helps, and oversized cutaway or cross-section models that let a visitor read internal structure they could never see on the real part. Decide at design stage which three components carry the stand, and we build the sightlines around them.

A Live Demo Needs a Real Supply, Not a Socket

Power-electronics demos have grown from a screen loop to a running converter or a drive under load, and that changes the electrical order completely. A rig switching real power draws real current — frequently three-phase — and the venue supply for it is ordered separately, is position-dependent, and has a deadline well before build-up. Under-order it and the demo trips on day one; leave it late and you cannot fix it on site. We size the supply to the rig, not to the lighting, and file it the day the contract is signed.

Heat Has to Go Somewhere

A converter dissipating a few hundred watts in an open lab is fine; the same rig inside a stand enclosure in a warm, crowded hall is a different problem. Power-electronics demos throw heat, and an enclosure designed for looks rather than airflow turns into an oven by mid-afternoon. We plan the extraction path — vented plinths, a route for warm air, a quiet fan behind a grille where needed — at the same time as the bench, so the demo that impressed at nine in the morning is still running at four.

The Audience Sits Down

PCIM has an unusually technical, working atmosphere — the visitor is an R&D, design or production engineer who wants to open a datasheet, sketch a topology and go three levels deep, not collect a brochure. That argues for real seated technical space and a screen you can put a schematic or a waveform on, rather than a bar and bar stools. On this floor the conversations are longer and fewer, and the stand should be built for depth over footfall.

The Date Moves — Plan From May 2027, Not June

PCIM's slot is not fixed. It ran in early May 2025, shifted to 9–11 June in 2026, and returns to 11–13 May for 2027. If your planning muscle memory is set to the June 2026 edition, every venue deadline for 2027 lands roughly four weeks earlier than you expect. We work back from the 11 May opening, and the services orders — supply, rigging — bind earlier still.

Six Halls, and the Conference Is Somewhere Else

The expo now runs across six halls — 4, 4A, 5, 6, 7 and 9 — having expanded from four in earlier years, so if you exhibited in the older layout the neighbourhood around your number may have changed. Check the current plan, not the memory. And the PCIM Conference runs at the NCC Ost conference centre, physically separate from the expo halls. If a colleague is presenting there, factor the walk and the timing into when your stand needs to be staffed and finished.

A Guide to PCIM Expo & Conference for First-Time Exhibitors

PCIM Expo & Conference — formerly PCIM Europe, renamed by organiser Mesago Messe Frankfurt — is the world's leading exhibition and conference for power electronics, intelligent motion, renewable energy and energy management. The 2027 edition runs 11–13 May at the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg, across halls 4, 4A, 5, 6, 7 and 9, with the PCIM Conference in parallel at NCC Ost. It has been held in Nuremberg annually since 1979.

One scheduling point is worth fixing before you plan. PCIM's date is not stable: it ran in early May 2025, moved to June for 2026, and returns to May for 2027. If you exhibited last June, reset every deadline roughly four weeks earlier.

Who Exhibits at PCIM and What Visitors Want

The floor covers the entire power-electronics value chain — power semiconductors in silicon, silicon carbide and gallium nitride, passive components, magnetic materials, capacitors, drives and motion control, power supplies, energy storage and the systems built from them, from e-mobility to grid and industrial applications. Exhibitors range from materials and single-component suppliers through to full-system manufacturers.

The visitor is overwhelmingly an engineer — research and development, circuit and system design, production, and technical purchasing. PCIM is known for an intensive working atmosphere: people come to compare datasheets, understand switching behaviour and thermal limits, and have the kind of detailed conversation that ends in a design-in rather than a giveaway. Two things follow for the stand. The product has to be legible up close, because these visitors judge by detail. And there has to be somewhere to sit and go deep, because the valuable conversations are long.

Stand Size: Choosing Between 9, 18, 24 and 48 Square Metres

Nine square metres works for component, passive, magnetics and materials suppliers whose product is small or is essentially a specification. You get a counter, a back wall, a lit vitrine and standing conversations. What you cannot do at this size is run a live demo bench with anyone able to gather around it.

Eighteen square metres suits suppliers who need a display, a couple of vitrines and a proper standing conversation, and it is the largest size we would attempt without a seated demo position.

Twenty-four is the threshold at which a live demo becomes practical: enough floor for a powered bench, the supply and extraction runs, and room for two or three engineers to stand around the instruments rather than block the aisle. If you intend to run a converter or a drive, treat 24 m² as the working minimum.

At 48 m² you can run two demo positions and still hold a seated, semi-private technical discussion, which matters when a conversation turns into a design review. From 80 m² upward, a double-decker adds meeting and conference-team space without consuming the ground-floor area that demo benches and vitrines need.

What a PCIM Stand Costs by Size

Ranges below are all-in for design, fabrication, graphics, domestic freight, install and dismantle. They exclude the floor space rental you pay to NürnbergMesse, and the electrical, three-phase and rigging orders placed with the venue.

Common Mistakes, in Order of Frequency

The most common is treating a tiny, high-value component like a poster, so the one thing that would win a design engineer is the one thing they cannot see. The second is ordering the electrical supply for the lighting and forgetting the demo, so a live rig trips the stand on the first morning. The third is designing an enclosure for looks and not for airflow, so the demo overheats by afternoon. The fourth is building for footfall — a bar and bar stools — on a floor where the visitor wants to sit and read a schematic. The fifth is planning from the June 2026 dates when 2027 is in May, which quietly moves every deadline forward. All five are settled at design stage or not at all.

A 48 m² with two demo positions runs €19,000–€26,000. Premium and double-decker builds from 80 m² start around €34,000.

What is not included in the price?

Three things. The floor space rental, which is between you and NürnbergMesse. Electrical, three-phase, water and rigging orders placed with the venue. And specialty add-ons — AV beyond the listed package, furniture beyond the standard set, catering, and staffing during the show.

Can the stand run a live converter or drive demo?

Yes, and it is increasingly the norm here. We design a powered demo bench with cable management, size the electrical supply to the rig rather than to the lighting — three-phase where you need it — and build a heat-extraction path into the enclosure so the demo that runs at nine in the morning is still running at four in the afternoon.

Do I need a three-phase supply?

If you are running anything that switches real power, quite possibly yes. It is ordered separately from the standard single-phase stand supply, it is position-dependent, and the deadline falls well before build-up. Tell us the rig's power draw at briefing stage and we specify and file the right supply alongside the rest of the order.

What about heat from the demo?

Is there customs to pay on the stand?

No. Nuremberg is domestic for us. We build in Frankfurt and drive roughly 220 kilometres south, so there is no customs file and no border on the stand itself. Demo equipment or samples you ship in from outside the EU are separate and stay with you.

Why is it now called PCIM Expo & Conference?

The organiser Mesago rebranded the event from PCIM Europe to PCIM Expo & Conference. It is the same show, in the same halls in Nuremberg, with the same focus on power electronics — only the name has changed. Many third-party listings still use the old name, which is why you will see both.

Do you handle the organiser paperwork?

Yes — electrical and three-phase orders, rigging permissions, waste removal, daily cleaning and crew passes. We file on the day a contract is signed, because the services deadlines fall well before build-up and they are the ones that cannot be recovered late.

How long does install take?

A modular 9–18 m² stand goes up in one shift. A 24–48 m² custom stand with a live-demo bench takes one to two days plus commissioning time for the rig. Premium builds use the full window. Every stand is pre-assembled at our workshop first.

When do I need to lock the design?

For a mid-May show, mid-March is comfortable. But the services orders bind earlier than the design does, so if your stand runs a demo we need the power figures well before the design is final — the electrical and rigging orders cannot wait for a styling decision. And remember 2027 is in May, not June: work back from 11 May.

Someone from our team is presenting at the Conference. Does that change anything?

Yes. The PCIM Conference runs in parallel at NCC Ost, physically separate from the expo halls. We schedule the build so the stand is finished and staffed before your presenter draws people over, and we factor the walk between NCC Ost and your hall into the timing.

The date keeps moving. How do I plan around that?

PCIM ran in May 2025, June 2026 and returns to May in 2027, so muscle memory from one year misleads the next. We anchor everything to the confirmed 11–13 May 2027 dates and count the venue deadlines back from there. The one that bites first-timers is the services order, which closes far earlier than the design deadline.

Can I reuse the stand at the next PCIM?

Yes, if it is built on a system frame. We store the structure in Frankfurt and refresh the graphics for the next edition. Because PCIM is annual, that reuse pays back quickly — and power-electronics messaging tends to move fast, so a graphics refresh is usually wanted anyway.

Can you handle a rush build?

Usually, for the structure. What cannot be rushed is the venue services order — electrical, three-phase and rigging have fixed deadlines and no builder can move them. If your stand runs a demo, that is the single reason to start earlier than you would for an ordinary show.

Can I visit during pre-build?

Yes, and with a demo bench involved we recommend it. The workshop is about fifteen minutes from Frankfurt Airport. You see the stand assembled, test the demo bench and check the vitrine sightlines against your real components, and meet the crew.

How many staff should I plan for?

On 18 m², two to three. On 24 m² with a live demo, three to four — someone needs to run the rig while another works the aisle and a third holds a seated conversation. At 48 m² and above, five or more. PCIM conversations are technical and long, so plan for depth rather than crowd-handling.

Do you build at other Nuremberg shows?

Yes — Embedded World, it-sa, SPS, Powtech, Fachpack and Chillventa among others. Same crew, same route from Frankfurt. Embedded World in particular shares much of PCIM's engineering audience, so if you exhibit at both we plan them together.
