INTERGEO is the leading international trade fair and conference for geodesy, geoinformation and land management, and it is the only major German fair in our calendar that changes city every single year. The 2026 edition is in Munich. The 2025 edition was in Frankfurt. Almost nothing you learned at the last one carries over to this one, and that single fact drives most of the planning decisions on this page.

Why Exhibitors Choose SOL Germany for INTERGEO

A geospatial stand fails in ways that a normal stand does not. A laser scanner needs a clear sightline of ten metres or more to show anything worth watching, and a stand designed as a set of enclosed rooms takes that away. A GNSS receiver cannot acquire satellites under a steel hall roof, so a live rover demonstration is physically impossible without a workaround agreed in advance. Drones need permission, an enclosure and headroom. We ask what has to be demonstrated before we draw a wall, because on this show the demonstration determines the floor plan rather than the other way round.

The rotating city is the other thing we plan around. Because INTERGEO lands somewhere new each year, there is no accumulated venue knowledge to lean on — hall numbering, rigging rules, floor loading, freight access and build-up windows are all Munich-specific in 2026 and were all Frankfurt-specific in 2025. We treat every edition as a first build at that venue, check the current technical guidelines rather than last year's, and keep the reusable part of the structure in storage so that what changes between editions is the freight leg and the graphics, not the whole stand.

The build itself happens on our own floor in Frankfurt. The complete structure is assembled there, photographed standing up for your approval, then dismantled and driven roughly 390 kilometres to Munich as domestic road freight — no border, no customs file, nothing on the critical path that a border officer controls. Problems get found in a workshop with tools and spare material rather than in hall C6 on the last build-up afternoon.

What you sign is one quote. There is no second invoice arriving three weeks after the show closes.

Your Receiver Will Not See a Satellite Indoors

This is the INTERGEO-specific one, and it catches first-time exhibitors every year. A steel-framed exhibition hall is close to a Faraday cage as far as GNSS is concerned. A rover that works perfectly in the car park acquires nothing on the stand, and a visitor watching a receiver sit at zero satellites draws the obvious wrong conclusion about your product. There are three usual answers: run recorded or simulated data through the same field controller so the workflow is real even if the fix is not; take the demonstration outside the hall for scheduled slots; or apply for a GNSS repeater, which is a regulated device and needs organiser and venue clearance well in advance rather than on the day. Decide which one you are doing before we design the stand, because a repeater installation and an outdoor slot imply completely different layouts.

Design the Sightline First, Then the Walls

Scanners, total stations and imaging sensors need distance to look convincing. Ten metres of clear line is not unusual, and on a 24 m² stand you simply do not have ten metres in a straight line unless the layout is planned for it — usually diagonally, corner to corner, with the target end kept deliberately empty. Exhibitors who ask for an enclosed meeting room, a storage cupboard and a demonstration position on a small stand are asking for three things that compete for the same floor. We would rather have that conversation over a plan view than watch a scanner get pointed at a graphics wall two metres away.

Everything Is Different Because the City Changes

INTERGEO has been in Hannover, Essen, Berlin, Stuttgart, Frankfurt and now Munich in six consecutive years. Nothing transfers. Hall heights differ, rigging rules differ, floor loading differs, freight access and build-up windows differ, and the hall numbers on last year's floor plan mean nothing this year. The practical consequence for an exhibitor is that a stand designed tightly around one venue's constraints may not be legal or even physically installable at the next. We design for the widest common envelope — height, rigging independence, self-supporting structure — so the same frame survives the move, and we re-read the current technical guidelines for each edition rather than assuming.

The Show Moved Three Weeks Earlier, So Every Deadline Did Too

The 2025 edition ran 7–9 October. The 2026 edition runs 15–17 September. That is about three weeks earlier, and organiser and venue deadlines are anchored to the show dates rather than to the month — space application, technical drawing submission, rigging and services orders, freight slot booking, structural approval for two-storey builds. Anyone working from an internal schedule written after the Frankfurt edition will be roughly three weeks late on all of them. It is the single cheapest mistake to avoid on this show and the one we see most often.

Flying Anything Is a Permission Problem Before It Is an Engineering One

Drone and sensor demonstrations are a real part of what people come to INTERGEO to see, and exhibitors reasonably want to fly something. Indoors that is not a decision the exhibitor makes alone — it needs organiser and venue clearance, and in practice it means an enclosed, netted volume with its own headroom, anchor points and a floor area that does nothing else. On a small stand a cage eats the stand. Tethered flight, a static airframe on a rig with the rotors turning nowhere near a visitor, or ground-based sensor work are what most exhibitors actually end up doing, and they can look excellent when they are designed in rather than bolted on. Raise it in the first conversation.

Half Your Best Conversations Are With Public Bodies

The visitor mix here is unusual. Alongside the surveying practices and engineering consultancies there is a heavy public-sector presence — state survey offices, cadastral authorities, municipal planning departments, utilities. Those conversations are long, they involve two or three people at once, and they lead to procurement processes rather than to a purchase order at the show. That has a direct design consequence: seating and a semi-private table are worth more per square metre here than at a comparable commercial fair, and a stand that is all open demonstration frontage with nowhere to sit down loses the conversation at exactly the point it gets interesting.

A Practical Guide to Exhibiting at INTERGEO 2026

INTERGEO 2026 runs from Tuesday 15 to Thursday 17 September 2026 at Messe München, using halls B5, B6, C5 and C6, with doors open from 09:00 to 18:00 on all three days. It is organised by HINTE Expo & Conference GmbH of Karlsruhe together with DVW, the German society for geodesy, geoinformation and land management, and it is a trade-visitor event rather than a public one.

The organiser's own headline figures — more than 530 exhibitors, over 18,500 visitors and 119 countries represented — carry from the most recent edition and describe INTERGEO alone. There is no co-located second fair here and no alliance total to disentangle, which makes the numbers unusually easy to plan against. A three-day conference programme runs alongside the exhibition, with the Main Stage and the Application Dome positioned on the expo floor itself rather than in a separate congress wing, so speaking slots and stand traffic interact more directly than they do at most fairs.

The Fair Moves City Every Year — Plan For It

INTERGEO is annual, but it is not annual in one place. Recent editions have been held in Hannover, Essen, Berlin, Stuttgart and Frankfurt, and 2026 is Munich. This is deliberate on the organiser's part and it works well for visitors, who get the fair on their doorstep every few years. For an exhibitor it creates a specific planning problem that no other major German fair in this calendar has.

Nothing about the venue carries over. Hall numbers on the 2025 floor plan describe a different building. Hall heights, rigging rules, floor loading limits, freight access routes, build-up windows and the appointed contractors are all venue-specific, and they change each time the fair moves. A stand designed tightly around the last venue may be neither legal nor installable at the next one. The practical response is to design for the widest common envelope rather than for one hall — a self-supporting structure that does not depend on rigging, a height that clears the tightest likely hall, and a footprint that can be re-proportioned. That is exactly the pattern a reusable system frame is built for, and it is why a rotating fair rewards modular thinking more than a fair with a permanent home does.

The Calendar Slot Swings Too

The rotation drags the dates with it, because the fair has to fit the availability of whichever venue is hosting. The 2025 edition ran 7–9 October in Frankfurt. The 2026 edition runs 15–17 September in Munich — roughly three weeks earlier in the year.

Organiser and venue deadlines are anchored to the show dates rather than to a fixed calendar month, so all of them move with the fair: space application, technical drawing submission, rigging and services orders, freight slot booking and, for any two-storey build, structural approval. An exhibitor working from a schedule drawn up after the Frankfurt edition will be about three weeks late on every one of them. Work backwards from the confirmed 2026 dates and re-check the deadline list against the organiser's own exhibitor pages rather than against last year's internal plan.

What a Geospatial Demonstration Actually Needs

The physics of this show are unusual and they hit the floor plan before they hit the budget. Three constraints come up on almost every brief. First, satellites: a steel-framed hall blocks GNSS almost completely, so a live rover demonstration inside the hall is not going to work. The realistic options are recorded or simulated data played through the real field controller, scheduled demonstrations outside the hall, or an approved GNSS repeater — which is a regulated installation requiring organiser and venue clearance well in advance, not something arranged during build-up.

Second, sightlines: laser scanners, total stations and imaging sensors need distance to demonstrate anything meaningful, often ten metres or more. On a small stand that only exists if the layout is designed for it, usually as a diagonal lane with the target end deliberately kept empty. It competes directly with enclosed meeting space, and on 24 m² you cannot have both at full size. Third, light: strong directional stand lighting and reflective white surfaces interfere with optical sensors and with the screens showing their output. Controlled, indirect lighting with a darker surface at the target end works far better than the bright uniform wash most stands default to.

Drones, Enclosures and the Permission Question

Unmanned systems have been a significant part of INTERGEO for years, with recent editions running a dedicated unmanned-systems programme curated alongside DVW, DGPF and UAV DACH. Exhibitors reasonably want to show an airframe doing something rather than sitting on a table. Indoor flight, though, is not the exhibitor's decision to make: it requires organiser and venue clearance, and where it is permitted it means a fully enclosed netted volume with its own headroom, anchor points and dedicated floor area — which on a stand under about 40 m² consumes the stand.

What works well in practice is more modest and easier to approve. A static airframe on a raised rig at eye level, lit properly, with the payload visible and a screen beside it running real captured data, communicates more to a technical buyer than a two-metre hover ever does. Tethered demonstration inside a small controlled volume is a middle path where the venue allows it. If flight genuinely matters to your proposition, raise it in the first conversation rather than after the concept is approved, because the answer changes the floor plan, the height, the rigging and the budget all at once.

Who Is Actually Walking Past Your Stand

INTERGEO's visitor profile is not the same as a purely commercial technology fair. Surveying practices and engineering consultancies are there in force, but so are state survey offices, cadastral and land registry authorities, municipal planning and infrastructure departments, and utility network operators. Trade visitors only, and a high proportion of them are technical specialists rather than procurement generalists.

That changes what a stand needs to do. Public-sector conversations tend to involve two or three people at once, run long, and end in a tender or framework process rather than an order. Somewhere to sit down semi-privately is worth more per square metre here than an extra metre of demonstration frontage — a stand that is all open display with nowhere to have a twenty-minute conversation loses the discussion at the moment it becomes valuable. It also means the graphics should carry fewer marketing claims and more concrete specification, because the person reading them can evaluate it.

Building in Frankfurt, Showing in Munich

Our workshop is in Frankfurt and Messe München is roughly 390 kilometres away by road — a domestic freight run of about four hours with no border, no customs file and nothing on the critical path that a customs officer controls. We build and dry-assemble the complete structure on our own floor, photograph it standing for your approval, then dismantle it, load it and drive it south. Our own crew installs it in the hall and takes it down again afterwards.

Because the fair moves, storage between editions matters more here than usual. We keep the reusable structure in our Frankfurt warehouse, which means the following edition costs a graphics refresh, any changes required by the new venue's technical guidelines, and the freight leg to wherever the fair has gone — rather than a rebuild from nothing. Over three or four editions in three or four different cities, that is a substantial difference, and it is the strongest practical argument for a system-based stand at this particular fair.

Because INTERGEO moves city every year, a stand that can be dismantled, stored and re-erected in a different hall is worth more here than almost anywhere else — the structure stays in our Frankfurt warehouse between editions and the next one costs graphics and freight rather than a rebuild. Was INTERGEO not in Frankfurt? Has it moved?

It has, and it does every year. INTERGEO changes host city annually — Hannover in 2021, Essen in 2022, Berlin in 2023, Stuttgart in 2024, Frankfurt in 2025 and Munich in 2026. If you are reading a page that puts the 2026 edition in Stuttgart or Berlin, it is wrong; several aggregator sites currently do, and at least one contradicts itself on the same page.

The dates feel earlier than last time — am I imagining that?

You are not. The 2025 edition ran 7–9 October and the 2026 edition runs 15–17 September, about three weeks earlier. This happens because the dates follow whichever venue is hosting. Can you support drone and sensor demonstrations on the stand?

Yes, and it is the first thing we ask about, because it decides the layout rather than being added to it. For drones, indoor flight requires organiser and venue clearance and, where permitted, a fully enclosed netted volume with its own headroom and floor area — which on a stand below roughly 40 m² takes over the stand. What does a stand at INTERGEO 2026 cost?

Our builds start at €4,500 for a 9 m² modular stand and run to around €48,000 for an 80 m² premium or two-storey build. A 24 m² custom stand with one instrument demonstration position typically lands between €11,500 and €15,000, and a 48 m² stand with a full demonstration lane and two seated meeting positions between €19,000 and €26,000. Floor space is bought separately from the organiser.

What is included in that price?

Free 3D design before you sign anything, build and inspection at our Frankfurt workshop, road freight to Messe München, installation and dismantling by our own crew, an on-site supervisor, organiser paperwork, and a dedicated project manager from brief through to the empty floor after dismantle.

What is not included?

Floor space rented from the organiser, hall services ordered directly from Messe München such as power connections and rigging, catering, your own travel and accommodation, and any flight permissions or netted enclosure required for drone demonstration. These sit outside the build price on every quote we issue.

How much clear space does a scanner demonstration need?

More than most people budget for. Ten metres of unobstructed line is a reasonable working figure for a scanner or total station to show anything convincing, and on a 24 m² stand that only exists if the layout is drawn around it — normally a diagonal lane, corner to corner, with the far end left empty. It competes directly with enclosed meeting space, so on smaller stands one of the two has to give. We would rather resolve that on a plan view than on site.

Do you handle the organiser paperwork?

Yes. Stand design submission, technical drawings, height and structure declarations and the venue's own forms are handled as part of the project. Anything that has to be ordered in your company's name — floor space and some hall services — we prepare and tell you exactly when to submit, which for this edition means about three weeks earlier than the 2025 equivalent.

Can we have a two-storey stand?

Yes. The constraint is timing rather than engineering: static calculations and hall-specific approval have to be submitted by a fixed deadline months ahead of build-up, and approval is not automatic. Because the 2026 edition sits about three weeks earlier in the year than 2025, that deadline moves earlier too. Raise it in the first conversation rather than after the concept is signed off.

Can I reuse the stand at the next INTERGEO, even though it is in a different city?

That is exactly what a system-based stand is for, and this fair rewards it more than most. We keep the structure in our Frankfurt warehouse between editions. The next one costs a graphics refresh, whatever the new venue's technical guidelines require, and the freight leg — not a rebuild. The caveat is to design for the widest common envelope from the start: self-supporting, no dependence on rigging, and a height that clears the tightest likely hall. A stand engineered tightly around one venue may not transfer.

How long does the whole process take?

Twenty-eight days from approved design to a finished stand on the show floor is a normal timeline for us, and a first 3D concept usually comes back within 48 hours of a clear brief. What cannot be compressed is the organiser and venue deadline chain — space application, services and rigging orders, and structural approval for two-storey builds.

Do you build in Munich or ship from Frankfurt?

We build and dry-assemble the complete structure at our Frankfurt workshop, photograph it standing for your approval, then dismantle it and drive it roughly 390 kilometres to Munich. Domestic road freight, no border and no customs file. Our own crew installs it in the hall.

What stand size do I actually need?

It depends on what has to be demonstrated. Software, data services and documentation work well on 9 to 18 m², and the money is better spent on graphics and lighting. One instrument demonstration position with a sightline and somewhere to sit means 24 m² as a floor. A full demonstration lane plus two seated meeting positions means 48 m². Below those thresholds something gets squeezed, and at this fair it is usually the seating — which is the wrong thing to lose given who is visiting.

What lighting works best for a stand full of sensors?

Controlled and indirect, which is the opposite of the bright uniform wash most stands default to. Strong directional light and large reflective white surfaces interfere with optical sensors and wash out the screens showing their output. We usually specify a darker, matt surface at the target end of a demonstration lane and keep the light off the instrument itself, then light the graphics and the meeting area properly.

Do you do graphics and print as well?

Yes, with two revision rounds included in every package. For this audience we argue for fewer marketing words and more concrete specification — accuracy figures, range, tolerance, integration — because the person reading the wall is usually qualified to assess it, and a claim without a number reads as an absence of one.

Who is on site during the show?

An on-site supervisor for the full build-up and the show days, and your project manager reachable throughout. Stands here have running instruments on them, so there is more that can need attention mid-show than on a static display — somebody from our side stays close enough to deal with it.
