Portátil vs. Personalizado: Guía de expositores portátiles para exposiciones

At one end of the exhibition spectrum is a banner you carry in a bag; at the other, a fabricated custom stand. Most exhibitors sit somewhere between, and choosing well saves real money. I quote across this whole range, so here’s the honest comparison of portable displays versus custom builds.

What each is for

A portable display — pop-up, fabric, banner, or a portable modular kit — is light, quick, cheap and self-installed. A custom stand is fabricated for one design: more presence, more flexibility, more cost, and a crew to build it. They solve different problems, not the same problem at different prices.

Cost and effort

Portable wins clearly on both. A pop-up or fabric display is a fraction of a built stand’s cost and goes up in minutes without a crew. A custom build is a project — design, fabrication, freight, install. If budget and simplicity are the priority and the plot is small, portable is the rational choice.

Presence and flexibility

Custom wins here. On a larger plot, against real competition, a portable display looks like what it is and gets lost. Custom architecture, real materials and a layout built around your goal do what a pop-up can’t — pull the walk-over and host a proper conversation.

The middle ground

Plenty of exhibitors don’t have to choose: a portable modular kit gives reusable structure with portability, and a built modular stand (from €3,800–€5,500 at 9 m² (a built stand’s price covers design, build, graphics, lighting, install and dismantle — not organiser floor rental, venue services or specialty add-ons)) gives presence with reuse. Decide by plot size, frequency and goal — not by the sticker price alone.

Frequently asked questions

Is a portable display cheaper than a custom stand?

Much cheaper, and self-installed without a crew. The trade-off is presence: on a larger plot against real competition, a portable display looks like what it is, where a custom or built modular stand pulls the walk-over and hosts proper conversations.

When should I choose portable over custom?

For small or space-only plots, tight budgets, quick branded presence at conferences, or frequent small appearances — especially with a reusable portable modular kit. From 18 m² up, or where presence and footfall are the goal, a built stand earns its cost.
