A Guide to Agritechnica Asia for European Exhibitors
Agritechnica Asia is the Asian spin-off of Agritechnica — the world's largest agricultural machinery fair, held biennially in Hanover by DLG, the German Agricultural Society. The Asian edition is organised by DLG's subsidiary DLG Markets Asia Pacific, in cooperation with Thailand's Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. It alternates annually between Bangkok (even years) and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (odd years). The 2028 edition at BITEC Bangkok follows the 2026 Bangkok edition — which drew 12,000+ visitors from 72 countries — and the 2027 Vietnam edition.
The show is co-located with HortEx Thailand, covering greenhouse technology, irrigation systems and floriculture, under one admission ticket. In 2026, country pavilions for Austria, China, Germany, India, Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea and Taiwan occupied part of the floor alongside individual exhibitors from major machinery brands including CLAAS, AGCO/Massey Ferguson, Mahindra, KUHN and Amazone, and precision-agriculture suppliers including DJI, XAG and Topcon.
Who Visits Agritechnica Asia and What They Are Looking For
The visitor is a farmer, a cooperative buyer, a government agricultural department official, a regional machinery dealer or an agri-tech entrepreneur working in Southeast Asia. Rice, sugarcane, cassava, maize and vegetable production are the dominant crop systems; mechanisation of transplanting, harvesting and precision application is where most purchasing intent sits. Visitors from outside Thailand — the 2026 edition drew people from 72 countries — include buyers and distributors from Myanmar, Cambodia, the Philippines, Indonesia and further into the APAC region.
The show is not a consumer fair. It is a serious B2B platform where purchasing decisions for machinery costing tens of thousands of euros are made, and where government delegations evaluate technology for national mechanisation programmes. A stand that can demonstrate equipment running, answer technical questions in English and offer literature in local languages will consistently outperform one that relies on catalogue pages alone.
What Makes an Agricultural Machinery Stand Different to Build
Three things separate an agricultural stand from a standard product display: weight, power and certification paperwork. A mid-range tractor or precision-sprayer that looks straightforward in a product brochure may weigh two tonnes in transport crating, need a three-phase power spur rather than a standard single-phase feed, and require phytosanitary certification if it has previously been used in a field. None of these constraints is unmanageable, but each requires a specific answer at the briefing stage — not at the build-up window.
The same logic applies to demonstration technology like field robots, autonomous seed drills and drone systems. Battery-powered UAVs may be restricted to static display in some venue zones. Power-drawn demonstration units need their electrical specification confirmed with the venue before the stand layout is fixed. We treat the equipment list — weight, dimensions, power draw, field-use history — as the first document of any Agritechnica Asia project.
The Non-EU Build Model — What Is Honest About It
Building a stand in Bangkok from a Frankfurt base is not the same as building in Nuremberg or Paris. We do not pretend otherwise. The fabrication happens locally, by a build partner we vet and work with directly. What we supply from Frankfurt is the design, the fabrication drawings, the specification for every component, the graphics files ready for print, and the project management that runs from briefing to sign-off photography.
That split-delivery model has a real advantage: local labour in Bangkok is faster and cheaper than flying a European crew there, and local operatives know BITEC's build-up procedures, loading bays and venue contacts. The trade-off is that quality control happens through the pre-assembly stage in Frankfurt and through our supervisor on the ground during Bangkok build-up. We have used this model at non-EU shows across Asia; the structure and the outcome are consistent.
Customs and Import: the Two Separate Streams
The stand structure, graphics and furniture travel on an ATA Carnet — a standardised customs document that allows temporary import of exhibition materials into Thailand without paying import duty, on the understanding they leave again after the show. Carnets are issued through chambers of commerce and are well understood by Thai customs at BITEC.
Demonstration equipment is a different stream. Machinery being brought into Thailand temporarily for trade fair demonstration requires a separate Thai customs temporary import permit, filed with the Thai Customs Department. The process is manageable but not identical to a carnet, and it takes longer. Any equipment that has been in contact with soil also needs a phytosanitary certificate from the exporting country's plant-health authority before it enters Thailand — this is enforced at the border, not at the discretion of the organiser.

Getting Started With an Agritechnica Asia Brief
The most useful briefing for Bangkok has three parts: your stand size and position if DLG has issued it; your equipment list with crated weight, dimensions, power draw and whether any item has had soil contact; and your key message — the one thing a Thai distributor or cooperative buyer should know about your product after spending two minutes at your stand. The equipment list is more important than the design brief at this stage, because it determines the plinth, the power order, the load check and, where relevant, the phytosanitary paperwork.
From there, you receive a 3D design and an itemised quote with the Frankfurt and Bangkok components separated. There is no obligation and no charge for the design.
